Apply for financial aid

Apply for financial aid

All applicants must submit the FAFSA [1] (Free Application for Federal Student Aid/Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This application must be completed by the parents of all dependent applicants. Independent applicants must complete the FAFSA themselves. There is no institutional financial aid application. International students [2] must follow a different application procedure.

If additional information is requested by the Financial Aid Office, you must comply in order to complete your financial aid file. Students with incomplete files cannot be considered for financial aid.

Deadline

CalArts has established a priority deadline of March 2 of the year prior to that for which you are applying. Accepted applicants whose financial aid applications are complete as of March 2 will have priority for all federal and institutional funds.

How to apply

You must submit the forms and documentation listed below and be accepted for admission to be considered for campus-based federal funds. Follow all directions carefully—mistakes can be costly.

1) Complete and submit your application

Apply online:

  • Fill out a 2008-09 FAFSA on the Web Pre-Application Worksheet
  • Student and parents obtain a FAFSA PIN
  • Use your legal name as it appears on your Social Security card
  • Include the CalArts Title IV School Code: 001132
  • Submit your 2008-09 FAFSA [3] on the Web after January 1, 2008
  • Print or write down your confirmation stamp
  • Mail signature page if required. Follow the instructions carefully.

 2) Verification Process

Some students will be selected to provide additional documents to verify information provided on the FAFSA. Additional documentation may include copies of student's and/or parent's 2007 IRS returns including W-2s. Students will be contacted by the Financial Aid Office.

Undergraduate California Residents Only - Additional requirements for CalGrant

In order to be considered for a CalGrant you must submit a GPA Verification certified by your last school of attendance to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by March 2, 2008.  Note:  CalArts students must request their GPA directly from the Registrar by February 15.
