Publications

CalArts magazine is published twice during the academic year. This magazine offers feature articles and news round-ups covering current institute initiatives and the ongoing activities of faculty, students, alumni and other members of the wider CalArts community. CalArts is produced by the Office of Public Affairs.

The institute also publishes two internationally acclaimed journals: Afterall and Black Clock. Afterall [1], a leading magazine of contemporary art, is published semiannually by the CalArts School of Art and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Each issue includes essays on the work of individual artists and longer critical pieces to establish a context for discussion. Afterall also maintains a Web site, afterall.org [2], with separate content. Dean Thomas Lawson is a co-editor of Afterall. Black Clock [3]is a literary journal published by CalArts in association with the MFA Writing Program [4]. Edited by novelist and cultural critic Steve Erickson, the semiannual magazine features some of the most celebrated writers working today, as well as the best new work produced in the Writing Program. See blackclock.org [5].
