Theater

The Theatre and PADT collection at CalArts is designed to provide easy access to Theatre Arts resources that you may need while completing your BFA or MFA degree. The resources include plays, books, films, slides, recordings and periodicals.

Book and Periodical Collections

 The book collection emphasizes contemporary 20th century theatre arts with materials on drama, theatre, costume design, technical theatre, playwrights and their plays and much more. Currently the library subscribes to 29 theatre arts periodicals and has back issues of costume magazines from the mid-nineteenth century. Although most of the book collection circulates, periodicals must be read in the library.

Slide Collection

 At present the Slide Collection holds seven sets of slides relating to the Theatre. These include the Motley costume designs, The Designs of Josef Svoboda, The RSC Company 1953-1969, The RSC 1975-1980, 2000 Years of English Costume, Theatre and Playhouse, and Costumes form the 18th Century. These may be viewed in the Library's Image Services or borrowed for class work. 

Film Collection

 The Film and Video Collection contains adaptations of plays and documentaries on film or video. These can be viewed in the Film Services area any time the Library is open.
