Charles Gaines received a bachelor’s degree from Jersey City State College and a master’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Museum exhibitions include the Whitney Biennial, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, Kunsthalle in Basel, Stadtgalerie in Stuttgart and Lenbachhaus in Munich. He has been represented by Leo Castelli in New York, Daniel Weinberg in San Francisco, Margo Leavin in Los Angeles, Dorothy Goldeen in Los Angeles, Young Hoffman in Chicago and Lavignes/Bastille in Paris. He is presently represented by John Weber in New York, Richard Heller in Los Angeles and Brigitte March in Stuttgart. Public collections include the Whitney Museum, Los Angeles County Museum, Lenbachhaus, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and the Oakland Museum.
