MUSIC: The CalArts community begins a series of concerts this fall and spring, that explore the music, and context, of Luigi Nono.

The first concert, Nono 1, perhaps situates his music in the most provocative way: abutting his early Polifonica, Monodia, Ritmica against Mozart's Quintet for Piano and Winds, and a selection of easy-listening choral works. Performing on this concert is the CalArts contemporary vocal ensemble, led by Fahad Siadat; CalArts' chamber orchestra soloists and faculty members Julie Feves, bassoon; Mark Menzies, piano & conductor; Robin Graham, horn; and CalArts alumni Kathy Pisaro, oboe and Brian Walsh, clarinet.

MUSIC: The first of two student-run concerts comprised of new and in-progress works. A second concert is scheduled for December 2.

MUSIC: The first in a series of four concerts featuring new compositions by CalArts undergraduate composers, with performances by CalArts faculty, students and special guests.

MUSIC: Master shakuhachi player and teacher will perform a concert of solo honkyoku pieces (traditional meditation music) on the Japanese bamboo flute.

MUSIC: An evening of standards and original compositions.

MUSIC: A concert of Brazilian style music.

MUSIC: An evening of songs, arias and other vocal music performed by the students of the CalArts voice program.

MUSIC: Chamber music from all eras performed by CalArts students and faculty.

MUSIC: A duo concert featuring Spencer & Blume, with special faculty guests Susan Allen, David Johnson, David Roitstein, Paul Novros and John Bergamo with the CalArts Percussion Ensemble.

MUSIC: A premiere of original, acoustic music, featuring a 40-minute piano solo and 45-minutes of mixed chamber works.
